Fort Pulaski/North Tybee Beach 12/28/14

Last Sunday I went birding with Diana Churchill at Fort Pulaski and the beach at the north end of Tybee Island. At Fort Pulaski, we heard and saw one Sedge Wren and heard another in the thin strips of short marsh behind the fort. We also saw two Great Black-backed Gulls, over a dozen Eastern Meadowlarks and three Savannah Sparrows. Later that morning at North Tybee Beach, we heard and saw a Blue-headed Vireo on Polk Street near the water treatment plant. We also had three Bufflehead and 43 American Oystercatchers – two with bands. Finally, we saw a Red-breasted Merganser off of Diana’s dock at her house and a few Northern Gannets flying over the ocean off of the beach near the lighthouse. Full lists and pictures are below.
