Brook Run Nature Walk 6/8/13

Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM I lead (for the first time) a nature walk at Brook Run Park. There were about 10 people in attendance, and they were quite a nice bunch!The highlight of the trip was seeing a small hawk mobbing a Barred Owl in the canopy. The group got great views of the owl, but the hawk kept more to himself, hiding above a dense green umbrella of leaves. This was my first time seeing a Barred Owl, quite a milestone in my birding career! The sweet notes of the song of a Wood Thrush bounced around the obstructing vegetation and reached their final destination, our ears. I felt as overjoyed as when I take the first bite of a warm strawberry rhubarb pie paired with cold, homemade vanilla ice cream. The rolling chatter of the White-eyed Vireo also rang through the woods. Here is the list of species we saw:
