Cochran Shoals 5/25/13

A couple of days ago, my father and I took our dog to Cochran Shoals in the afternoon to see what we could find. While we only saw 15 species of birds, I did get to see some other really cool plants and animals. It is nice to see the gymnastic flying of Northern Rough-winged Swallows and the zipping around of Blue Dashers once again. The highlight was definitely seeing a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron swoop across the trail at the start of the marsh path 10 feet in front of us, land on a log and swallow a helpless frog in  in one gulp. We also saw a Common Yellowthroat for a split second. Another interesting and surprising thing is that this was my first trip to the river on which I did not see a Canada Goose.
