Great Backyard Bird Count 2013

This year’s Great Backyard Bird Count is underway so grab your binoculars and contribute to science! I went out in my backyard yesterday and lay on my hammock for 30 minutes listening and looking at the close to a hundred American Robins foraging in the trees above, or the Brown Creeper that crawled up the Loblolly Pine, or the Carolina Wren trilling to my left. Here is a list of the 16 species I saw, topping last year’s list by 1:

Red-bellied Woodpecker 1
Downy Woodpecker 2
Carolina Chickadee 10
Tufted Titmouse 3
White-breasted Nuthatch 2
Brown-headed Nuthatch 1
Brown Creeper 1
Carolina Wren 2
American Robin 75
Eastern Towhee 2
Chipping Sparrow 1
Song Sparrow 1
Dark-eyed Junco 1
Northern Cardinal 1
Eastern Bluebird 1
House Finch 2
