Cochran Shoals 1/5/13

     I went to the Chattahoochee River last Saturday with my father in the late afternoon. The weather was overcast and it was close to getting dark, so the birds were not very active, but we did happen to find a Spotted Sandpiper and some Hooded Mergansers. I had the chance to try out the BirdLog North America and Bird Tunes apps on my new iTouch that lets you enter checklists (even offline) into eBird. I think it is a great app that lets you increase the count for a species just by tapping once. Bird Tunes is a great app for people who have a hard time with bird songs or are uncertain a lot about identification in the field. It has a comprehensive library of bird species with multiple songs and calls for each species accompanied by a sonogram. Here is a list of the species:
